Years ago, Steven and I biked up to the Quartz mine near our home. I was trying to think of a fun, new hike to take the kids on one day and ended up trying to find the mine. The kids almost gave up, but on the last stretch, Hunter spotted it. Yay Hunter!

Kinley wanted to be little miss independent hiker. Starting young!

Handsome Alton.

They started collecting Quartz at the first sighting, which meant they lugged them for the entire hike. That's one way to get a work out!

Close up of a piece of Quartz.

Hunter was being an awesome big brother and helping his sister up the steep part of the trail.

We thought this might be the mine, but totally wasn't.

Yay, we found it!
Several weeks later, Kinley and I (and my good friend Lark Fillmore) hiked up to it again. She was wanting to scope it out for her kids. It was fun having some "girl time".

So beautiful. This is Red Mtn in the background.

And this is Four Peaks in the background.
We also went hiking with the Fillmore's on one of the school holidays. This time we took them up to the radio towers at the top of our neighborhood.
