Our Kauai Adventure- Day 1

Well, the day finally came for us to take off on our ultimate Hawaii adventure. My parents flew in from Texas Yesterday to help out with the kids for the week. We left bright and early this morning for an 8am flight bound for Honolulu.
This was the picture of our ginormous plane. The flight itself was cold and long, but I got some ZZZZ's in and got closer to finishing the Seabiscuit book. Yay! We took a quick 30 min flight over to Kauaii and we're sure glad to be on the ground again.  The island is very beautiful and rugged. We were greeted with Hawaiian leis.
A nice older lady who worked there helped get our luggage and show us the the car rental shuttle.  We landed our hands on this really sweet ride.
And when we got to our place, found out just how amazing our view was going to be from our bedroom and also the kitchen.  Wow!

The island is literally filled with thousands of these crazy chickens and they all just had their babies, so it is a pretty hoppin' place.  I loved seeing the babies.  Some were so tiny.
We went to this nice overlook and saw our first waterfall, Opaeka Falls. Hopefully we will have a chance to hike to it before we leave.
Then we stopped off at this lookout area off the side of the road and ended walking to this cool, yet strange beach. As you would walk in the sand, your foot would sink in about 2-3 inches. It was crazy and made it challenging and all the more exciting to walk in.
Saw this beautiful bird, though not sure what it is (found out it's a Brazilian Cardinal).  Made me think of my Grandma Mullin, who loves cardinals.
Anyhow, this cute mom actually had about 10 babies. The others were not close enough to her to be in the picture.

Next we headed out to the Kilauea  Lighthouse. It was very beautiful and reminded us a lot of North Carolina. Tours closed at 4pm, so we were never in the area before that time to get in.
We noticed there was a gathering of cars along the road to the lighthouse, so on the way out, we figured we would join them, but not totally sure what for. It was to get these beautiful sunset pictures. Wow!

Finally, Steven thought it would be fun to drive down a rock quarry road near the lighthouse. The goal was to get to some tide pools at the end of the road on the beach, but we ended up on quite the off roading adventure and by the time we got there it was too dark to see any pools.  It was a hand gripping, full of laughter and craziness adventure all at once.  Had to try out the jeep you know 😉!
