Oh Monday, how did you come so fast? Kinley and Hunter woke up bright and early at 5:30am. Hunter said he was having a bad dream and Kinley was ready to put on the smiles. Oh, how I love this girl so. Just when I need a smile, she is always in the wings ready to bring 'em on.
A quick side note: Last night Kailyn was trying to hide from the boys (mainly Steven) and climbed into this small hand-woven basket. I didn't get to the camera in time to get the picture of her entire little body contortioned into the basket, but long story short, she got stuck. I carried her to Steven (while still in the basket) with a big smile on my face and we were able to rescue her from this "not funny" trap. Today, when I asked her about it she was smiling and proud of herself (quite a different response from last night). Anyhow, she reminds me so much of me as a child. She is very creative and a happy girl. I'm sure all if us girls gave Mom and Dad many a smiles! These moments make being a parent totally worth it!!
Back to today, we happened to be in the Scottsdale area and I thankfully remembered the fun train park. Kinley was a starvin' marvin' and the kids just needed to run free for a bit, so it turned out great. They LOVED playing at the huge covered playground and then we got tickets to ride the cool train and carousel. It was a fun, unplanned treat for us all. Once Hunter found out about it, he was not happy, so it sounds like a train park trip is in store maybe for his next day off of school!?! (I love the picture where the kids are holding their hands up in the air as we went through the tunnel. After passing thru the tunnel, Kailyn said, "That was so fun Mom. Let's go again!" Ahhh, can my heart melt and more?!?).
Tonight for Family Night we talked about Choosing the Right. We talked about special tools that can help us CTR in special situations. Some of the tools we talked about using were: prayer, scriptures, parents, fasting, leaders and teachers. All I can say is that we tried and hopefully when the kids are faced with a tough situation, they will remember our lesson. You never know what they are actually soaking up, especially since they spent have of the time walking around and doing all kinds of other things but paying attention to the lesson.
Also, I just finished reading a wonderful, quick-read book titled, 'I am a Mother' by Jane Clayson Johnson. I would highly recommend it to every women no matter what phase of life she is in. She talks about, and sets straight, a few "myths of mothering": you will be in control...you are the mother after all; needing help is a sign of weakness; you must do it all, all the time; and motherhood means a loss of identity. She talked a lot about the value of a mother's role and that we are not JUST mothers. She mentioned that we need to stop trying to be a "super mom" and spend more TIME with our kids. Try to truly listen to them and think of ways to serve them, even when they are adults themselves. Their is nothing more important than a mothers heart and love. Anyhow, great book!
