Fourth Day of Fall Break - Vertuccio Farm
Well today was filled with fun in the sun, and on the run. We drove down into Gilbert to meet Kailyn's preschool group for a field trip to the farm. The kids were SO excited about this trip! After being welcomed, the farmers showed us their "pizza" farm. It was such a cool idea. They had made a large circle, divided it into slices and grew different parts of the pizza on each slice (for example, they had wheat for crust, tomato plants for sauce, oregano, pigs for pepperoni, a cow for milk/cheese. It was very creative and a great way to teach the kids. While the farmer was trying to show us their cool pizza farm, this huge (I mean HUGE) US Air Force plane circled over our heads at least 15 times doing some training runs. It was so fascinating to see this thing flying around. Anyhow, then they served us a little snack and sent us into the BIG corn maze. It was super fun, but kind of hot and a long way to wander around for the kiddos' little legs. The kids were pooped out and so with two punches still left to find on our card we started heading in the direction that we thought was out. the corn was really tall, but amazingly found them both on our way out and thankfully did find out way out. The kids were a little worried that we would never be able to find our way. At least we had a sense of great accomplishment once we were out and had solved the mystery of the maze! After the maze adventure, they milked a pretend cow, gathered a pumpkin from a smaller maze and headed off to explore the farm. One of their (and my) favorite things to do was to jump on this HUGE bubble in the ground. It was made of bounce house material, but was more like a big oblong trampoline. It was super fun and it would be a blast to have one of these in our back yard. Great exercise!!! The kids also road the cow train, played on the see-saw, tried their hand (muscles) at ringing the bell with their weighted hammer and had a yummy picnic lunch. When we were getting ready to head to our car, when we got word that three baby goats were just born while we were there so we just had to go over and take a peak. It was amazing to see how quickly they were up and wobbling around and making their cute little noises. Hopefully they were able to clean the mom up after we left. She was still pretty bloody and messy, but beautiful all at the same time. Oh, to be a Mother! You could tell she loved those little babies right away. We finally made it to the car (like 4hrs later. I know, crazy!) and realized that we were super close to the new Gilbert LDS Temple being built, so we decided to take a quick drive by. This was our first time to see it up close and it was so beautiful. It reminded me a lot of the Houston, Texas Temple. Once we got home, they decided that they just had to get baths in Mom's big bath tub because they "smelled like a farm" (hmmmm, I wouldn't know why!). All-in-all, it was a fun day and everyone played hard and will hopefully find their soft pillows and sleep hard (counting sheep)!
