Kinley's Seizure- Feb 14, 2013 (Valentine's Day)
Well, Valentine's Day 2013 will never be one we will forget. I noticed Kinley was a little fussy throughout her nap, but I wanted to let her figure it out because I knew she was super tired. Around 3:15pm, I went to pick her up to get ready to pick Hunter up from school when I noticed she felt a little warm. I'm not big on giving medicine, so I thought I would wait for a little bit to see if she was just warm from her bedding or truly sick. Anyhow, when I went to wake up Kailyn and Alton, I noticed Kinley's body felt different. She felt stiff. I looked at her and noticed she was staring at something on the ceiling. When I rubbed her chest ABD called her name, no response and no blinking. Then she instantly starting seizing in my arms. It was the most terrifying experience in my life. Her eyes rolled back and she was breathing with this horrible gurgling sound. Of course, I couldn't find my phone and out of desperation in wanting Kinley back, I ran over to the neighbors house. They called 911 for me and the first asked was, "Is she breathing?" It was then that we noticed her lips turning blue. As I went to raise her so I could listen to her chest with my ear, she let out a loud sigh and began to cry. What a relief! It took her a good 30 mins or more to come around. She wasn't making eye contact (totally not like her) and wouldn't really acknowledge me. They ended up taking us be ambulance to Cardon Children's Hospital and all checked out fine. Just a very exhausting adventure for us all! She had a febrile seizure (which I figured this is what it was), which was caused by a rapid rise in temperature. There is a chance she could have more and would outgrow them around 6 yrs old. I opt for the no more route. That was the scariest feeling to see your baby "check out" from the world. It seemed like it took her about a week to totally be back to normal and me too. Any time I saw her staring too long at something I would panic inside for fear of another one. By the way, her fever was only 102 with her seizure. Not too high, but just rose too quickly. Not sure if I could have done anything differently. It was a mere 15 mins from the time I picked her up to the start of her seizure. Crazy!!! She seems to have no evidence if the experience today and our happy little caboose!
